bone grafting

- Bone grafting is a procedure to improve the density and volume of the natural jawbone tissue. Bone grafts are added to areas with insufficient amount of natural, healthy bone that are caused by periodontal disease, facial injury/trauma, or empty socket space after tooth extraction.
- There are three forms of bone graft material:
- Autograft – bone taken from the patient’s own body, usually a part of the jawbone.
- Allograft – bone taken from other human sources
- Xenograft – bone taken from an animal source (usually pig or cow bone)
- Our specialist will determine which type of bone graft to use for you depending on the size of the bony defect and the procedure. If there is a lack of thickness or height of bone for implant placement, bone grafting will be recommended to improve implant candidacy.
